On January 12th we visited American Corner in Katowice again. This time we focused on one of the most interesting American regions – THE SOUTHWEST.
Today is Thanksgiving
Hoping for good living
Amazing things happened to us
Now we have nothing to discuss
Kitchen is full of tasty food
Some people have a very good mood
Give us happiness and health
I want some joy and wealth
Very harsh times in 1620
In pilgrims’ houses no horn of plenty
New life after cold days
Great reason to eat turkey filets

Thank you God for everything
Happiness and joy at home
Atmosphere of warmth and peace.
Nothing has worried us this year
Kids are quiet and their parents are happy
So let us have Thanksgiving like that.
Give us health and wealth
Ice in winter, sun in summer
Very beautiful spring and autumn
I’ll appreciate your help forever
No more tears or sadness
Give it to us all.
On December, 8th we gathered to take part in a workshop dedicated to “the most American” of all American holidays – THANKSGIVING. This year it was celebrated by the Americans on November, 24th.
We have learnt the history of the first Pilgrims who sailed from Plymouth, England in 1620 on Mayflower ship and settled in Massachusetts. With the help of native Americans some of them managed to survive, which they celebrated with the first Thanksgiving feast in 1621 consisting of corn, pumpkins, fish, peas and perhaps the most traditional American dish – a stuffed turkey.
Apart from the history, we’ve found out what the modern Thanksgiving customs are, namely Pardoning the National Thanksgiving Turkey and Black Friday, which is now a global commercial tradition followed by Cyber Monday.
